Okay, so I have a K-drama obsession! But it’s really painful when I keep hearing about new K-dramas and do not find them on Netflix.

So this lead me to see which other sites are out there where I could watch my favourite Korean dramas. And this search helped me find Viki Rakuten.

Viki is an American OTT streaming service and has about 35 million subscribers at the present (including yours truly!). It functions similarly to Hulu and has a license to source original content from BBC, Netflix, and a lot of other platforms.

So you can be assured that you’ll find a variety of shows here. What interested me more is that Viki also creates its own original content! Yayy… more K-dramas for me!

I watched some of the Korean dramas on Viki, including their original content and reviewed them here. Check it out!

Viki has seen a rise in traffic from other Asian countries like Japan, Indonesia and mostly India during the pandemic.

Korean-drama-dominated OTT @Viki saw its overall traffic from India take a 3% hit between October '19 and Feb '20. But then, the site traffic from India climbed by 36% in March, and another 46% over the last 6 months, as per an analysis of estimated data from SimilarWeb. pic.twitter.com/wBDgvavIfC

Korean Dramas On Viki

If you’re planning to get a Viki subscription or already have one, here are some of the highest-rated Korean dramas on Viki where you can start your binge-watch journey!

Live On

  • Genre: Teen Drama, Coming-Of-Age
  • Cast: Jung Da-bin, Hwang Min-hyun, Noh Jong-hyun, Yang Hye-ji
  • Number Of Episodes: 8 Episodes
  • Who Will Like It: Teens, Fans of light-hearted shows
  • IMDB Rating: 7.6/10

The first K-drama I watched on Rakuten Viki was Live On. I got intrigued about this show as this is an original Viki production. Naturally, I wanted to see how good their original content is, and honestly? I was not disappointed.

Yes, the show is your run-of-the-mill teen drama. You have some of the sub-plots and tropes in this show in several other ones from Mean Girls to Korean classics like Boys Over Flowers.

But it doesn’t pretend to be anything else! And that’s why it’s so easy to watch.

The show revolves around Baek Ho-rang, the most popular and classy girl at the local high school who is also a social media influencer. Although she’s very pretty, Ho-rang is very standoff-ish, something that earns her a considerable number of haters.

And when one such anonymous hater threatens to expose a traumatic incident from her past on the school radio, she must join the broadcasting club to find out their secret identity.

I like how the K-drama weaves messages about bullying, the influence of social media, and love in a coming-of-age drama.

It only has 8 episodes, so you can watch it when you want a light watch to kill the time.

The Goddess Of Revenge

  • Genre: Melodrama, Mystery, Revenge Thriller
  • Cast: Kim Sa-rang, Yoon Hyun-min
  • Number Of Episodes: 16 Episodes
  • Who Will Like It: Fans of mystery dramas, Fans of shows like “Revenge”
  • IMDB Rating: 7.6/10

Social influencers, rich people’s glamorous lives, scandals and revenge! Now that makes a heady cocktail, doesn’t it? This is what you get with the show The Goddess of Revenge.

The show is also known as Chanel Oh Hara Revenge and follows the social butterfly and reporter Kang Hae-ra who’s made a subject of a scandal, leading to her downfall.

After this Hae-ra swears revenge and comes after the rich and powerful people in society who were behind the whole thing.

Now The Goddess Of Revenge was a very popular drama when it first aired and I can see why. The story is gripping and never makes you lose sympathy for the lead Hae-ra.

There is a romance angle here with Hae-ra falling in love with Yoon Hyun-Min (another person out for revenge!) but this romance never overshadows the plot and this is something I really liked.

Kiss Goblin / Kiss Ghost

  • Genre: Romance, Comedy, Supernatural
  • Cast: Jun Hye Won, Bae In Hyuk, Lee Min Jun
  • Number Of Episodes: 12 Episodes
  • Who Will Like It: Fans of Guardian: A Great and Lonely God, Fans of supernatural romances
  • IMDB Rating: 7.5/10

Look I’m a sucker for supernatural romances, ever since my Twilight days, this has been the case. So I couldn’t help but watch this show called Kiss Goblin.

It’s a web series and an original Viki production. Straight off the bat, I could see the similarities between this K-drama and the show Goblin (also known as Guardian) and not just the title.

The show revolves around a Goblin who must get 10 heartfelt kisses if he is to pass on to the afterlife. But things get complicated when our Goblin, Ban Sook falls in love.

I loved the chemistry between the two main characters and the progression of the romance also felt sincere and cute.

But this show doesn’t come close to being the level of swoon-worthy that Guardian was. Bae In-Hyuk is really a bae (I’m sorry I simply had to make this pun!) but the charisma Gong Yoo bought to his character Kim Shin is missing here.

The K-drama Kiss Goblin is a light watch, you can breeze through the 16 episodes. It’s nothing new you’ve seen before but it’s a great successor to all the classic supernatural romances in Korean TV history.

So if you find yourself suffering from withdrawals after finishing Guardian or The Legend Of The Blue Sea, this is what you should watch next.

The Penthouse

  • Genre: Suspense, Thriller, Drama, Mystery
  • Cast: Lee Ji-ah, Kim So-Yeon, Eugene, Um Ki-Joon, Yoon Jong-hoon, Shin Eun-kyung
  • Number Of Episodes: 48 Episodes (In 3 Seasons)
  • Who Will Like It: Fans of plot-driven thrillers, Fans of slow-burn dramas
  • IMDB Rating: 8.1/10

I really wanted a break from all the romance and teen dramas, so the next Korean drama on Viki I watched was The Penthouse.

And it drew me in from the very beginning! The story is about the rich, ambitious inhabitants of the luxurious Hera Palace and their children who attend the prestigious Cheong-ah Arts School.

Their lives get complicated when a mysterious woman from a humble background Oh Yoon-hee enters Hera Palace.

Things take a turn for the worse when a girl is pushed from the Penthouse of Hera Palace and killed. The K-drama then turns into a whodunnit mystery with the residents of Hera Palace suspecting each other.

The Legend Of The Blue Sea

  • Genre: Fantasy, Romance
  • Cast: Jun Ji-Hyun, Lee Min-ho
  • Number Of Episodes: 20 Episodes (+1 Special Episode)
  • Who Will Like It: Fans of melodramatic romances, Fans of supernatural romances
  • IMDB Rating: 8.1/10

If you’re a fan of movies like Splash (or The Little Mermaid or Aquamarine if you’re not old like me), you are going to love this one.

Yes, this one is a mythical, fantasy romance revolving around a mermaid and a human who falls in love with her.

The story is an epic tale of love and reincarnation that spans centuries. One part of the story takes place in the historical setting of the Joseon dynasty where a nobleman’s son Kim Dam-ryeong falls in love with the mermaid Se-hwa.

And the other half is set in modern times with their reincarnations trying to get back to complete their unrequited love.

I love the richness of the plot of this show, but felt the twists and turns were a little too predictable. Also the stories of the Joseon era and modern-day seem a bit repetitive.

But nevertheless, this show is a good watch if you like melodramatic storylines and tales of epic love.

I’m Not A Robot

  • Genre: Romantic Comedy, Sci-Fi
  • Cast: Yoo Seung-ho, Chae Soo-bin, Um Ki-joon
  • Number Of Episodes: 16 Episodes
  • Who Will Like It: Fans of light-hearted romance shows, Fans of paranormal/sci-fi romance
  • IMDB Rating: 8/10

All right, so this show has one of the most far-fetched plots I’ve seen in K-dramas. But somehow it manages to pull it off and comes across as sweet and charming.

The show is about a tech billionaire called Kim Min-kyu who is allergic to humans. Yup! You’ve heard that right. Every time Min-Kyu touches a human being his body breaks out in hives. (As an introvert, I could somewhat relate!).

So despite all his luxuries, Min-Kyu lives a very lonely and isolated life. That is all about to change thanks to Jo Ji-ah.

She’s the muse and ex-girlfriend of professor Hong Baek-Hyun who’s modelled a veryyyy life-like humanoid robot after her.

But when the robot malfunctions right before it’s supposed to be sent to Min-Kyu for inspection, Jo Ji-ah must take its place and convince him that she’s an uncannily realistic android and not a human being.

And you guessed it right? They fall in love! But what about Min-Kyu’s allergy, and how will he cope with finding out that his robot love is actually human.

I won’t give you any spoilers. So you can find out for yourself!
